An eight-year-old dog who survived almost impossible odds is set to be euthanized at Chicago Animal Care & Control. Topper arrived at the shelter as a stray after being discovered on the roof of a building after an incredibly tragic chain of events. Topper’s three family members were murdered, and his fourth family member committed suicide.
Topper’s rescue gained national attention as he had to be lifted to safety from the roof of a dilapidated house with a crane; a once loyal dog haunted by the violent deaths of the only humans he ever knew. Only Topper survived, and he was discovered perched on the roof of that house, guarding its tortured ghosts and crumbling walls.
He lost his whole world in the blink of an eye. He is gentle, loving, and sweet. CACC is at capacity and requires more adopters and fosters to come forward and save more lives.
TOPPER has now been at the shelter for six months and has learned what love is from the staff. He loves to cuddle, but he has now become protective of his home and doesn’t want to leave. According to shelter officials, he has been there too long and has grown too attached to his caretaker – a volunteer – and will need to be the only dog in the home if he is to be adopted.
TOPPER is friendly, gentle, smart and curious, loves agility and food puzzles. He has a trot, a skip, and a bounce that exude excitement and joy! His heart, on the other hand, is swollen with this newfound reality known as Love; he just needs a HOME where it can fully blossom.
Please share this dog’s plight with approved rescue organizations, friends, family and social media contacts. Sharing can save lives.
