Life is often unfair, and many times, we find ourselves fighting and doing our best to find our own place in this cruel world. This is exactly what a sweet Chihuahua named Daffodil was striving for; to settle with a family that would show her love, unlike her owner who dumped her.
Daffodil was abandoned in a cardboard box after its owner discovered that it was born without front legs. She lay crying for days on end in a soggy cardboard box on the streets of San Francisco. At first, passersby stopped to look at the little dog, but after finding out she was ᴅɪsᴀʙʟᴇᴅ, they were disgusted and passed by.
Fortunately, a good Samaritan spotted the dog and took her to the local office for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). Initially, the staff were skeptical about the puppy’s ability to sᴜʀᴠɪᴠᴇ. But after a few days of caring and receiving love, Daffodil becomes a very affectionate and alert puppy. The sweet girl doesn’t know she has a ᴅɪsᴀʙɪʟɪᴛʏ and simply wants to be loved by her caregivers.
To make it easier for Daffodil to move around, rescuers helped her create a set of fake mini wheels. Learning to walk on all fours was a challenge that Daffodil was determined to overcome. Her road to recovery is very long, but she has done all it takes to become normal. At first she wobbled, but after a while she got used to the wheels. What a champion.
Kong works as a case manager for the company OrthoPets, that made Daffodil’s wheels, and has followed many dogs’ progress adjusting to prosthetics. “Daffodil is exceptional,” Kong said. “We see a lot of patients where it takes a fair amount of time to learn how to negotiate the world. She’s a spitfire and takes off running.”
Daffodil is growing quickly, and she’s already been through three different sets of wheels, but she always adapts to the larger ones within a day. “She’s a quick study,” Kong said. Now the dog can roll on the sidewalk easily and they will train her to walk on more difficult terrain.
Fortunately, Daffodil was adopted by Olivia, one of the people who were by Daffodil’s side throughout her recovery. Olivia loved the cute dog so much that she wouldn’t let anyone else have it. Hope Daffodil will live happily and happily with Olivia for the rest of her life.
