There are few things more ʜᴇᴀʀᴛʙʀᴇᴀᴋɪɴɢ than seeing a child living on the streets. Sadly, it’s more common than most people realize. Photographer Maria Kabs noticed a little boy named Rommel Quemenales living on the streets of Quezon City in the Philippines and decided to take some photos of him to share on her Facebook page.
Boy Rommel Quemenales (11 years old), living in Quezon City in the Philippines has had to live away from his parents since childhood. Although he has an older sister who lives in another city, because he could not afford to go there, the boy had to live on the streets begging for food when he only finished 2nd grade. Because he had to leave school too early, Rommel always wanted to one day he will be able to go to school again. However, that seemed like a far-fetched dream for him.
He might have been homeless, but he had found a way to bring joy to his life. He had adopted a puppy that was also living on the streets. He said that he found the puppy and named him Badgi. Most of the time, Badji is Rommel’s only real companion.
Every day, when he asked for food, Rommel shared it with his best friend. On the contrary, Badgi always protects Rommel from other beggar children. At night, the two poor little friends curled up and slept soundly, forgetting all the hardships and fatigue of the long day. Even though it’s so difficult, he still can sing and sing.
Rommel enjoys teaching Badgi different tricks and cuddling with him at night. Rommel might have been dealt a rough hand, but he has learned to care for others and be compassionate. Badgi and Rommel are lucky to have each other. Hopefully, their lives will get better one day.
