After the first three weeks of breastfeeding, by the fourth week – when the puppy is one month old, the lotus can introduce the puppy to eating foreign foods.
Why should you feed your dog solids?
A mother dog can breastfeed for up to several months after giving birth. In the wild, puppies born in the spring stay on their mother’s milk until fall is over. Lactation in the mammary glands of the mother dog does not depend on the time of childbirth but on factors affecting it physically. For example, the mammary glands will continue to secrete milk while the puppy is still nursing, or when we massage the mother’s udder regularly even though the puppy has been separated from the mother. Early weaning will ensure that their stomachs readily accept foods instead of breast milk.
Before feeding your puppy, remember to prepare some necessary items when raising a puppy:
- Bowl of water and dog food
- Shower gel, nail clippers, combs
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Toys for puppies
- Lanyards, necklaces…
What foods should be prepared?
Let your puppy learn to eat green food to supplement vitamins and fiber. Puppies can eat more pureed or chopped tubers such as beans, potatoes, carrots… to supplement vegetable protein, macronutrients and microelements necessary for the puppy’s body to develop well. have enough nutrients.
The best way to feed your puppy is to prepare a plate of porridge containing liquid food, containing fresh milk. In the blender 2 cups dry food about 450 grams with about 400ml puppy milk and hot water, puree. This portion of food can be enough for 6 – 8 meals for a medium sized dog. The plate of food should be moderately shallow. Place your dog next to the food dish and gently push their chin into the portion of the food. Your dog will smell it and start licking the food on the plate that you have prepared.
After each week, increase the amount of dry food, reduce the amount of water and milk, and reduce the grinding time to make the food thicker. You can also soak dry food in water to soften it for your dog to eat when they are not used to it. Thus, after 6-7 weeks of weaning, puppies can eat 4 meals of dry food per day, drink water instead of breast milk and can completely separate from the herd as well as from the mother dog.
